My Teaching Philosophy
For the purpose of this page, I had to question myself on various aspects of what it meant to be a good teacher. For instance, what do I want to accomplish as a teacher and what are the qualities that seem important for me to have as a teacher? This helped me to understand who I really am and what my goals towards my future career were.
I hope that as an ESL teacher, I will be a source of motivation for the students. I will work hard on the content and the activities that I will be preparing for them. I hope they will come to my class motivated and hasty to see what I planned for them. I will make sure that my students will always learn something useful in an interesting way. I know that often this is not a good representation of what the reality really is, but I think that if I keep this goal in mind, I will be able to achieve it.
Sometimes I think about teachers that I had the chance to be next to. I remember having a teacher who was very dynamic and gentle at the same time. I felt always safe and relax when I was sitting in her class. She always took time to listen to our concerns and always make sure that there were no quarrel between students. She cared about us so much!
I think that I would like to reflect those qualities in my teaching approach since I think it is very important to set students, especially young learners, into a good atmosphere. I strongly believe in the emotional intelligences therefore I would like to use this approach with my learners.
There are other qualities which I think that must be present in the teaching approach of every teacher. I think that it should be important to be flexible, to be able to adapt the teaching to everyone, to be able to give diversity classes, also to be caring, dynamic, strict and more than all, stimulating students to go beyond. I think that the latter will help them to grow up and will shape them for new challenges.
There is one last thing that I always wanted to do as a teacher and I really want to share it to you. Even if I will teach English, I would like to integrate the significance of having good values, in my classes. I am a very respectful person with a lot of good values and I would like to work on these values with my future students.
